My recent home upgrade in Reading
I needed a bespoke home bar after hosting a party where we ran out space. I chose to search near Forbury Gardens.
I stumbled upon the website while browsing and emailed photos. Central Bedroom and Kitchens replied with a price that seemed fair for the job.
The process of planning this renovation was honestly quite involved. I dedicated many days thinking on the layout of the room before even choosing up the phone. My living area has always felt a bit unfinished, and owning a dedicated area for beverages seemed like the perfect fix to that problem. I remember sitting in my hallway staring at a messy countertop covered with glassware and realising that everything had to change. The initial conversation with the team was extremely straightforward, which gave me assurance. We talked various styles, from contemporary minimalist looks to more traditional and wooden finishes. I was really surprised by how much information they wanted regarding the measurements and the current decor of my home. It seemed like they genuinely desired the finished product to blend perfectly with the rest of the property. I provided multiple angles in the images I sent, making sure each corner was visible. They explained that the bespoke type of the furniture meant that precision was absolutely paramount to avoid any issues during the installation. We went back and back on possible resources, looking at swatches of laminate and different kinds of timber patterns. It is surprising how much thought goes into picking the correct hardware, like knobs and fittings, which could totally change the vibe of the entire build. I wanted a space where I might easily prepare cocktails for friends without needing to constantly dash back to the pantry for lemons or glasses. The convenience of having everything in a single place was the main driver for this investment. We settled the design following a brief consultation where every one of my concerns about wiring and electric points were addressed. I liked that they did not hurry the design phase, spending the effort to make sure that the width of the racks was sufficient for my largest bottles. It felt like a collaborative effort rather than a simple sale, which is rare to find these days.
The fitting day arrived sooner than expected, and the fitter was punctual and prepared. He started by laying down safety sheets to make sure my carpet stayed tidy. Watching the parts being unloaded was fascinating, as the standard of the wood was instantly obvious. He meticulously verified the levels of the walls before attaching the base structure of the unit. I watched as the structure gradually gained shape, changing a plain alcove into a practical feature. The degree of craftsmanship involved in fitting the boards to the wonky walls of my period house was impressive. He mentioned why each section fitted together to provide total stability. We wasted a bit of duration deciding on the exact height for the integrated cooler, ensuring it was easy to open but hidden away from main sight. The fitting of the counter was the highly rewarding part of the entire process. Seeing the smooth top finally resting on the cabinets helped the project come real. He then installed the glass backing, which instantly caused the room to look double the breadth. The LEDs were wired next, and testing them for the initial moment was a thrill. The warm glow below the racks showcased the glassware beautifully. I could visualise exactly how handy this might be during evening parties. The fitter was highly diligent, taking the effort to wipe down each surface and clear any dust created during the drilling. He also showed me how to adjust the shelves should I later wanted to store bigger items. The focus to precision was truly exceptional, straight down to the silicone lines along the edges. It was clear that he had great satisfaction in his work, which is always good to witness. We conducted a last inspection of the finished work to make everything was perfect. I observed that one handle was a bit loose, and he tightened it immediately with a fast twist of a screwdriver. This diligence was just what I was looking for when I booked the service.
The finished area appears completely stunning and has become the focal feature of my downstairs. It provides a sophisticated feel that had been formerly missing from my living room. The storage is huge, allowing me to sort all my liquors, sodas, and fancy glassware in a unified place. No more do I need to rummage inside cramped kitchen cabinets to find a corkscrew or a certain kind of tumbler. Everything has its proper place, which makes hosting much more simpler and relaxing. I enjoy the way the materials catch the sunlight in the afternoons, making a warm atmosphere. My guests have now praised the design several occasions, with some actually inquiring for the contact of the people who built it. It truly feels like a custom extra tailored specifically for my needs. The elevation of the countertop is perfect for leaning by with a drink, and the integrated lighting strips offer just the right amount of glow without being too bright. Even when not in use, it serves as a lovely piece of furniture that elevates the whole look of the property. I used some effort placing my bottles on the shelves to make a pleasing arrangement. The mirrored back truly assist in showcasing the labels and giving dimension to the tight space. It has inspired me to experiment making new drinks that I before thought were too complicated to bother in a standard setting. Having the sink nearby would have been good, but the area constraints resulted in we decided against it to save storage space. This was a deliberate decision we made at the design stage, and I certainly not rue it. The extra drawer room for napkins and tools is much more useful to me in the long period.
There were a couple of small limitations that are worth noting for a balanced perspective. The wait period for the bespoke panels was a little slower than I originally hoped. It lasted about eight days from the first deposit to the final fitting date. While this is expected for high-quality furniture, it required a some of waiting on my part. I had hoped to have it ready for a certain birthday, but we missed that deadline by a week. However, the communication from the office about the delay was regular, so I was not left in the dark. I would wait a little more for a result that is built to endure than have a hasty work that breaks after a few years. The initial cost estimate was also a little lower than the final bill, mostly because I chose to improve the hardware and add extra internal lighting midway through the process. These changes were entirely my decision, and the company was very clear about the additional costs required. Another minor point was the amount of boxes left following the fitting. Although the technician tidied up the work site well, there was a significant pile of waste to dispose of in my recycling. It wasn't a huge problem, but something to keep in mind if you possess limited bin space. Despite these small points, the total journey was very good. The quality of the fit is much better to anything I might have purchased off-the-shelf. It seems solid and durable, and I am sure it will withstand decades of use. I believe the value it has given to my home far outweighs the initial outlay. It has transformed the way I enjoy my living space, rendering it far more social. I not longer sense cramped when people come over.
Thinking back on the entire experience, I am truly happy I went ahead with it. The first idea came from a trip to a friend's house in London, where they had a similar setup. I saw then how much it enhanced the flow of the party. When I got back to Reading, I began looking for local firms and found that going with a bespoke provider was the only route to achieve the precise style I desired. The ability to pick each element, from the colour of the stain to the placement of the plug sockets, made the end product was exactly as I pictured. I even got a tiny secret compartment built for keeping valuable items like silver spoons. This kind of personalisation is what renders the service unique. It did not feel like a mass-produced piece being fitted into a space where it didn't belong. Instead, it looks like it has always been a segment of the architecture. If you are considering a similar home upgrade, my tip would be to remain calm and spend the time on the planning stage. It is far easier to change a sketch than it is to fix a cabinet once it is manufactured. The knowledge offered during the start was crucial in stopping me from making simple mistakes, such as placing the fridge too close to a radiator. These little details of advice are what you pay for when you hire skilled professionals. I am now looking at different parts of my house to see where else I might add built-in solutions. The outcome of this fitted project has provided me the drive to start a larger renovation in the kitchen next year. click here It has been a wonderful addition to my daily routine, and I look forward to numerous years of using it with relatives and friends. Finding the right balance between looks and use was the aim, and I think we reached it perfectly. The process from a cluttered alcove to a stylish social hub was well deserving the time and investment required. I now possess a home that I am really happy to show with to visitors. Reading has some great venues to go for a cocktail, but honestly, I now favour staying at home and enjoying my own personal setup. It offers the same feel without the noise or the commute. That itself was worth the entire undertaking. I am very pleased with how the ambience works in the evening, providing a chill environment to unwind after a busy day at the office. It is the small luxuries like this that make house life much rewarding and enjoyable. I highly appreciate the craft that was put into the final result. The way the doors close with a soft click tells volumes about the build quality. No detail was ignored, and the final look is exactly what I hoped it would be when I originally started this adventure. It is a testament to the talent of the fitters and the quality of the components utilised. I am a truly happy customer.
